This multi-genre workshop is for writers of stories, novels, flash fiction, poetry or creative non-fiction. Perfect for beginning writers just getting started, and for seasoned writers who crave inspiring freewriting exercises, and idea generation as well as supportive but incisive critique and workshopping. Mini lectures and discussions on elements of the craft each week, motivating writing prompts, and weekly constructive workshops of your writing.
Those writing longer pieces will be workshopped at least twice (up to 7,000 words per submission), likely more, and the instructor provides a thorough oral and written analysis of each piece. Poets, flash fiction or short form writers may submit pieces the week before for lively discussion and review with the instructor, or bring to class for read-aloud and on the spot impressions!
We'll critique your work based on your own goals, and the elements of the craft, and discuss how to make your piece even more of what it wants to be. You'll discover hidden gems in your own work and your workshop mates'. In all EVWW workshops, workshopping starts with positive feedback then moves on to suggestions for improvement.
We'll look at excerpts from the pros as pertain to your own writing, including novel passages, Pushcart small press picks, and Best American poetry winners, and discuss our own opinions of these published pieces.
Longer form writers have much to gain from study of language and style in poetry and flash, and flash and poetry writers have much to gain from study of structure and character in longer works, and all participants get the benefit of fresh views of their work in this mixed workshop. Get ready to surprise yourself, generate new pages and receive insightful supportive help with your projects.
